Quite a Prize! Blade Runner Certified by CGC Home Video Sold in Heritage Auction

The First VHS Graded by CGC Home Video realized $5,750, one of the top three results in the sale.

Just over a month ago, Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) launched CGC Home Video™, a world-class certification service providing expert authentication, grading and encapsulation for VHS and Betamax videocassettes. CGC Home Video has already graded thousands of videocassettes across all genres, and now, those videocassettes are making waves in the auction world.

Over 40 videocassettes certified by CGC Home Video were offered in Heritage Auctions’ VHS and Home Entertainment Signature Auction, which ended on June 29, 2023. Out of the 249 total lots offered in the auction, the First VHS Graded by CGC Home Video was one of the top three results in the sale.

The Blade Runner VHS, Embassy Home Entertainment (1983) graded CGC 9.0 A++ and pedigreed as the First VHS Graded by CGC Home Video (lot 38033) realized $5,750. This particular copy of Blade Runner is the original first release of the home video to come to market, making it a prized collectible. Its grade of CGC 9.0 A++ attests to its impeccable condition and excellent seal quality.

Meanwhile, a sealed The Goonies VHS, Warner Home Video (1986) graded CGC 9.0 A (lot 38104) realized $4,250, tying for the fifth highest-realized price in the sale. A classic movie about youthful adventure and misfits, this copy of The Goonies is also the first release of the home video to come to market.

  • a sealed The Shining VHS, Warner Home Video (1986) graded CGC 9.0 A++ and pedigreed to The Motor City Collection (lot 38154) that realized $4,000
  • a sealed Gremlins VHS, Warner Home Video (1985) graded CGC 8.5 B+ (lot 38109) that realized $3,000
  • a sealed Sixteen Candles VHS, MCA Home Video (1984) graded CGC 9.6 A+ (lot 38196) that realized $2,500
  • a sealed Wizard of Oz VHS, MGM/UA Home Video (1983) graded CGC 8.5 A+ (lot 38243) that realized $1,250
  • a sealed Clockwork Orange VHS, Warner Home Video (1986) graded CGC 9.0 A (lot 38048) that realized $1,000
  • a sealed Enter the Dragon VHS, Warner Home Video (1986) graded CGC 9.4 A (lot 38125) that realized $1,000
