CGC-certified Back to the Future Realizes Nearly $11,000 in Heritage Sale
The world-class certification services provided by CGC Home Video™ continue to bolster the value of vintage VHS tapes, with the most popular titles commanding impressive prices at auction. One of these titles is Back to the Future, and an example from CGC Home Video’s first pedigreed collection — the Motor City Collection — recently demonstrated its position in the market once again.
More than 200 videocassettes certified by CGC Home Video were offered in Heritage Auctions’ The September VHS and Home Entertainment Showcase Auction Featuring the Motor City Collection 48153, which ended on September 29, 2023. With the majority stemming from the Motor City Collection, 10 VHS tapes graded by CGC Home Video realized at least four figures or more in the sale.
Back to the Future VHS, MCA Home Video (1986) graded CGC 9.6 A++ (lot 20016) realized $10,937. The classic 1985 film starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd is one of the most beloved movies of its era, spawning two sequels in what would make the series a trilogy. This edition is the first-ever videocassette release of the famous movie. And according to the auction house, it is the finest factory-sealed copy that Heritage has ever offered, making it a cornerstone of any home video collection.
This is the second CGC-certified copy of Back to the Future to realize five figures. In August, another example graded CGC 9.2 realized $10,000.
