Heritage Offers First VHS Graded by CGC Home Video

The CGC 9.0 example of Blade Runner is among nearly 40 videocassettes graded by CGC Home Video in the sale; others include The Shining and The Goonies.

Over three dozen videocassettes certified by CGC Home Video™ are being offered in an upcoming Heritage Auctions sale, including the first video certified by CGC Home Video. Online bidding is already underway for the VHS and Home Entertainment Signature Auction, which is set to end on June 29, 2023.

Featured is a sealed Blade Runner VHS, Embassy Home Entertainment (1983) graded CGC 9.0 A++ and pedigreed as the First VHS Graded (lot 38033). Not only is this Blade Runner the first videocassette graded by CGC Home Video, but it’s also the first pre-watermarked copy — in other words, the original first release of the home video — to come to market. Bidding has already exceeded $1,500 for this rarity nearly two weeks before live bidding. Learn more about this cassette here.

Also featured in the sale is a sealed The Shining VHS, Warner Home Video (1986) graded CGC 9.0 A++ and pedigreed to The Motor City Collection (lot 38154). In addition to having one of the highest grades possible on the CGC Home Video Grading Scale, this sealed example of The Shining is the white cover variant, which is significantly rarer than the more common black cover release.

In addition, a sealed The Goonies VHS, Warner Home Video (1986) graded CGC 9.0 A (lot 38104) is attracting attention in the sale. The Goonies tells the adventure of a group of misfit kids who go on a journey to find a legendary treasure left behind by a pirate. The movie became a classic for its witty humor and embodiment of youthful adventure. This CGC-certified example comes in the original first release slipcase.
