Did You Know? CGC Home Video Grades International Releases

CGC Home Video doesn’t just grade North American releases. Submit your VHS and Betamax tapes from around the world!

Since launching in early 2023, CGC Home Video™ has certified many incredible examples of home video history, including international releases from Asia and elsewhere. Check out a few examples below, and submit your VHS and Betamax tapes — from anywhere and everywhere — today!

CGC Home Video has graded a number of popular videocassettes that were released in Asia in the 1980s. One such example from Japan is a sealed preview cassette of Akira VHS, Bandai Home Video (1987) graded CGC 9.8, with an A for the Seal Grade. The iconic 1987 animated action film based on director Katsuhiro Otomo's 1982 manga of the same name is widely considered a classic of the genre, setting the bar for modern anime. This example even includes a ticket to a screening of Akira!

In addition, CGC Home Video recently certified a pair of releases from Hong Kong of another classic animated series: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic books by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the American animated TV series became a global hit in the late 1980s. Single episodes of the American TV show were sold on videocassette in the Hong Kong market, like this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Invasion of Punk Frogs VHS, Family Home Entertainment graded CGC 9.2, with an A for the Seal Grade. It features the eighth episode from TMNT Season 2, which is called "Invasion of the Punk Frogs."

Another Hong Kong Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles VHS release — Hot Rodding Teenagers — received a grade of CGC 7.0, with a B+ for the Seal Grade. It features the fourth episode from TMNT Season 1, which is called "Hot Rodding Teenagers from Dimension X."

These are just a few of the fun international VHS releases that have been submitted to CGC Home Video in recent months, and we can’t wait to grade more! If your international title doesn’t appear when filling out the CGC Home Video online submission form, simply use the "I can’t find my videocassette" option and enter your title’s information.
