The force was with CGC during a recent Heritage sale, because a Star Wars VHS graded by CGC realized an appropriately-starry five-figure result! It was one of several CGC-certified Star Wars collectibles offered in Heritage’s Star Wars Day Hollywood / Entertainment Signature Auction, which ended on May 4, 2026.
The sealed Star Wars VHS, CBS / Fox Video (1984) graded CGC 9.8 A+ (lot 11031) realized $20,000, outselling many other Star Wars pop culture collectibles in the Star Wars-themed sale. Despite being a later release than the coveted 1982 and 1983 drawer-box editions of the groundbreaking space drama, this 1984 slipcase release is still considered an early production and is in demand among VHS and Star Wars collectors alike. This particular slipcase variant is distinguishable from later slipcase productions by the vertical rear watermarks and two-tone tape across the back of the case.

Star Wars redefined the entire science fiction genre with its incredible special effects and stellar soundtrack, creating a shift that would eventually inspire other great films of the ‘'80s and '90s. Interestingly, even though the film was released in theaters in 1977, its release on home video kept getting delayed due to extended theatrical releases and rental agreements. When it was finally offered on video several years after its release, it was, needless to say, still incredibly popular.
