May the force be with you — Star Wars Day is celebrated on May 4, and Heritage Auctions is joining the excitement by offering more than a hundred Star Wars collectibles in an exclusive sale, which includes a sealed Star Wars VHS graded CGC 9.8 A+. Online bidding is already underway for the Star Wars Day Hollywood / Entertainment Signature Auction, which is set to end on May 4, 2026.
The sealed Star Wars VHS, CBS / Fox Video (1984) graded CGC 9.8 A+ (lot 11031) is an impressive example of the beloved space opera. Released in 1977, Star Wars (or Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, as it is known today) blew audiences away with its timeless story, exemplary soundtrack, and groundbreaking special effects. Unfortunately for fans, the film wouldn’t release on home video until 1982, and not without hurdles — Fox initially tried to restrict the home video release to rental stores only. However, rental stores quickly found loopholes to circumvent Fox’s restrictions, and later that year, Fox was forced to allow Star Wars to release on home video for public purchase.
This CGC-certified VHS has the CBS / Fox Video logo, which marks it as a 1984 release — one of the earlier releases of the film on home video. The changed logo celebrates Fox’s partnership with CBS, which had been finalized earlier that year.
