CGC Seeks Top Manga Expert!

If you know and love manga, this is an incredible opportunity to join the world leader in pop culture collectibles grading.

The Certified Collectibles Group® (CCG®) is seeking to hire a top manga expert to lead a new service dedicated to the professional authentication, grading and encapsulation of manga. This service will be offered through Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®), the world’s leading third-party grading company for pop culture collectibles, including comic books, magazines, TCGs, sports cards, video games, home video and more.

The introduction of CGC’s new manga grading service follows CGC’s highly successful launches of CGC Video Games™ in 2022 and CGC Home Video™ in 2023. CGC is continuing to expand its services to meet demand for professional authentication and grading across collectibles categories and the globe. Recently, CGC announced a second on-site grading event for TCGs and sports cards in Shanghai, and the company will be opening an office in Tokyo in late 2024.

Even in today’s highly digital age, reading and collecting physical manga has never been more popular. Manga sales have risen quickly over the last few years as collectors search for out-of-print copies of their favorite older series and dive into newer stories. In addition, fan-favorite manga series such as Fullmetal Alchemist, Sailor Moon and One Piece have had Collectors Editions of their books released in recent years, adding more value to manga collecting. Some of the most sought-after manga series include Fist of the North Star: Southern Cross, Naruto Volume 1 (Limited Edition Shiny Holo Cover, 2003), Mushishi (First Edition) and One Piece Volume 1 (Shiny Holo Edition).

Being part of this launch is an incredible opportunity to help build a new grading service in an increasingly popular collectibles category, backed by a company and leadership team that have a proven track record in collectibles certification.

A top manga expert should demonstrate:

  • comprehensive knowledge of a wide variety of manga
  • knowledge of manga variants, including variant covers, multi-volume publications, limited releases and more
  • expansive expertise as it relates to the production and condition of manga
  • outstanding ability to detect counterfeit and altered manga
  • the highest level of integrity
  • a strong desire to grow as well as train and lead other team members
  • a willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed

Employees working for CGC on the new manga service are expected to be based in Sarasota, Florida, which has no local or state income tax. Additional benefits include career advancement opportunities; health, dental and vision insurance; a 401(k) with company match, paid vacation and more. In addition, opportunities to travel to CCG’s new office in Tokyo, Japan may be available for those in this position.

“Grading and authentication services for manga are not widely available to collectors,” said Steven R. Eichenbaum, CEO of CCG. “CGC looks forward to giving manga fans confidence in the authenticity and condition of their collections. This initiative starts with recruiting a world-class manga expert who can help us excel in this growing market.”

In addition to CGC, CCG includes world-leading grading services for coins (Numismatic Guaranty Company®), paper money (Paper Money Guaranty®) and stamps (Authentication Stamp Guaranty®). Together, the CCG companies have certified more than 88 million collectibles.
